Final Score: Nightwatch 22, Sol 29
What It Means: Nashville (1-5, 7th in the South) falls to last in the division. It was a battle of attrition in Nashville, between two 1-loss teams and the NightWatch come out of it looking up at the rest of the division. Austin (2-5), meanwhile, keeps its distant playoff hopes alive with a 2-2 record against anyone not named Dallas.
3rd Star: Ray Davenport evened his stat line, with 3 assists and 3 goals. He continues to show up on the field and in the stat line week in and week out.
2nd Star: Tom Radcliffe showed tremendous poise and decision-making skills, doling out 6 assists among his 20 completions.
1st Star: One of the downers of this loss was that it overshadowed a huge performance by Jake Wright, who put in work with 8 goals on the evening. Every time Nashville had the disc, it looked like #11 was wide open.
Why It Happened: Nashville opened up the game well, taking a 1-point lead into the 2nd quarter. It was then that the wheels began to fall off, with Nashville getting broken 4 times in an ugly 2nd quarter that saw the NightWatch down 14-11. Nashville continued to struggle on defense, giving up goal after goal over the top and failing to close the gap after half.
Injury Report: Michael Venezia missed the game with an ankle injury and Dan Chazin was absent due to a conflicted schedule.
Key Stat: 8 as in the number of goals scored by Jake Wright (see above). He was responsible for a little under 33% of Nashville’s goals tonight.
Watch’s Up Next: Nashville travels to Texas next weekend for a Texas two-step, featuring stops at Austin (5/21) and Dallas (5/22). The NightWatch are home again on Sunday, May 29 at 2 PM at John Overton High School.
