Final Score: NightWatch 22; Atlanta Hustle 21
What It Means: The monkey is off the NightWatch’s back getting their first win of the season and more importantly a key win on the road, during a double header. Towards the end of the season this win will be important in the playoff picture. The first two losses showed Nashville tends to lie down in the second half but this victory proved what coach Ryan Balch has been preaching all pre-season, “we will be a team no one wants to play.”
Starwatch*: 3 Stars: #55 Tom Radcliffe (3 A/ 3 G /2 D) 2 Stars: #4 Blake Waldron (6 A/ 3 G/ 93% PP) 1 Star: #54 Dan Chazin (3 A/ 1 G/ 97% PP)
Why It Happened: Nashville seemed to have been experiencing déjà vu when Atlanta got the necessary breaks to tie the game late, but the short experience of giving up leads helped them stay confident under pressure. Huge defensive efforts from #33 Frank Strasser and captain #10 Tyler Conger forced the Hustle to earn their way back into the game. Atlanta tied things up with a huge layout D by #88 Taylor Goforth in the fourth. Trading points in overtime Atlanta gave up a costly penalty, pulling from within their end zone under windy conditions giving the NightWatch an easy start near midfield before the clock started. The offense found a fresh rhythm of underneath open cuts until #55 Tom Radcliffe threw the final score to #15 Ray Davenport.
Injury Report: No major injuries took part during the game.
Key Stat: 36; as in completions for #54 Dan Chazin which led to his 97% passing percentage (36/37) in the win.
Watch’s Up Next: The NightWatch host the Raleigh Flyers (3-0) next Saturday, April 23, for their first home game. First pull is at 6 PM (CST) at John Overton High School, all kids under 10 get in for free!
